For the 29 Union students in the Class of 2026 who took the ACT, the district says the results offer an encouraging look at preparation for college.

Union reported October 23 that those students’ composite scores and superscores exceeded state averages. The share meeting college-readiness benchmarks in English, math and reading also topped the statewide share, according to the district’s release.

The results describe participating test-takers, rather than the entire graduating class. The announcement did not include the actual district and state averages or benchmark percentages.

Students who took the test more than once improved by nearly two points per section on average, Union said. More than 80 percent of the participating students took the optional science assessment, with an average above the state’s.

Superintendent John Howard credited students, teachers and staff for the results.

The district says the benchmarks help indicate a student’s likelihood of earning a passing grade in corresponding introductory college courses. They provide one measure of preparation as graduates move into the next part of their education.
