HWY 63 Closure Creating Chaos for Tama County Sherriff
Drivers are ignoring all the signs, and it shows.

Part of Highway 63 is closed, and it’s creating plenty of headaches for local law enforcement.
Highway 63 is closed just south of Traer all the way to Toledo, and the Tama County Sheriff’s Office keeps having to remind people that the road is, in fact, closed.
They’ve made several social media posts explaining that going around barricades is only acceptable for residents and farmers needing access to homes and fields.
They also made it clear that Level B roads—minimally maintained roads that are basically mud—are not acceptable alternatives to the posted detour.
Apparently, enough people have been ignoring the signs that the Sheriff’s Office has had to keep posting about it, which is honestly a little comical. So if you’re headed south—follow the detour. The Tama County Sheriff’s Office is definitely paying attention.
