Union plays Sumner-Fredericksburg in JV and sophomore volleyball at Sumner-Fredericksburg High School. JV begins at 5:30 PM, followed by sophomore volleyball at 6:30 PM.

Union swimmers competing with Waterloo West host Wahlert Catholic for varsity and JV girls swimming at Central Middle School Swimming Pool. The meet begins at 6:00 PM.

Bring your smartest teammates and compete for bragging rights! Teams of up to 4 with a $10 per person entry fee. Bring your own beer and wine and we will supply the snacks! There will be a prize to the winning team! Looking forward to seeing you!

The Norma Anders Public Library hosts Literary Collective, an informal gathering for adults who enjoy books and reading. The autumn session includes a book tasting, refreshments and conversation about current reads. Registration is required; call the library at 319-476-5210 to sign up.

Union varsity volleyball plays at Sumner-Fredericksburg High School. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:15 PM.

Stop by the Norma Anders Public Library for Early-Out Hangout, with crafts, coloring, Bingo, Bee Bots and race tracks. Children must be at least 8 years old to be at the library without direct parent or caregiver supervision; caregivers must be at least 12.

Do you or someone you know want to help us make a library display?

Color a picture, place special memorabilia, or choose your favorite book to be placed on our community display for the month of October! You can premake something, or you can come on September 30th from 6-8pm and make your material and/or sift through our library stacks to find a special book to place on this display. If you have questions, call the library's number (319)342-3025!

*Materials potentially will be assessed by library staff to ensure they are appropriate for all ages.

*Ensure you pick up your materials at the end of the month, and the library is not responsible for damaged or stolen materials.

Union 7th and 8th grade volleyball teams host Oelwein at Union Middle School Gym. Both calendar entries list a 4:15 PM start; the combined event runs through the latest listed end time of 6:15 PM.

Union hosts Denver for 7th and 8th grade football at the Union Middle School Football Field. The 8th grade game is scheduled for 4:15–5:15 PM; the 7th grade game is scheduled for 5:30–7:00 PM.

Union hosts its cross country invitational at La Porte City Golf Club.

Scheduled race starts:

middle school boys at 4:45 PM

varsity girls at 5:00 PM

Union hosts a JV volleyball quad in the Union High School Competition Gym. Play is scheduled from 5:00 to 9:00 PM.

The Union Fresh/Soph football game against Hudson, scheduled for 4:45 PM at Union High School, has been cancelled.

Union swimmers competing with Waterloo West take part in the 48th Marcussen Invitational at the Cedar Falls High School Natatorium. The meet begins at 9:00 AM.

Union freshman volleyball competes in a quad at Grundy Center High School Main Gym. The calendar lists a 9:00 AM start.

Step into the past with us for an engaging tour of the Westview Cemetery in La Porte City, Iowa. Join fellow history enthusiasts as we stroll through the serene grounds, uncovering the fascinating stories behind several historical burial sites. Each stop will reveal tales of the individuals who helped shape our community, bringing history to life in a way that is both captivating and memorable. Following our tour, La Porte City Library invites you to join us for a presentation at the nearby museum, located at 408 Main St. This will be an excellent chance to enhance your knowledge of the local history and discover where to find additional historical information about the area.

Admission is $5. Rain date: Sunday, October 11, 2026. The organizer has not specified a time for the rain date.

The Union Booster Club is proud to host the 2026 Homecoming Tailgate at Union High School on Friday, October 9th from 4:30-7:30pm. Swing by and play cornhole, giant Jenga, giant connect four, participate in the football toss, design with sidewalk chalk, get your face painted, or enter some great raffles!

We will have our normal concession offerings, but also welcome the Old Stone Bistro, Sweet Things LLC, and Chick-fil-A food trucks. DJ Hoov will be playing some tunes throughout the event.

Union Knights fans AND Waterloo Columbus Catholic Sailor fans are all invited to participate in the event. Come hungry, play some games, rock out to some tunes, and have some fun as we celebrate the 2026 homecoming
